Privacy policy
Draft for legal review. This page must be checked by a lawyer before launch, and the company name and address filled in.
This policy explains what Search A-Z collects about the people who use our site, and about the people they search for.
Who we are
Search A-Z is run by [COMPANY NAME], [ADDRESS] (“we”). Contact: privacy@[DOMAIN]. For the UK and the EU we are the data controller for the reports we compile.
People who search
- What you type: the name, country and any extra details (city, company, phone, email, age range) you give us. We use them to run your search.
- Your email, if you give it, to send you your report.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your card number.
- Free-search limit: a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address per day. We don’t store your IP address itself.
- How long: searches and reports are deleted after 30 days. Quality records for our team are deleted after 90 days.
People who are searched for
We compile reports from public and commercially available sources: professional and social profile data from licensed data providers, US public records (for people in the US only), phone and email validity checks, and pages found on the public web. We do not access private accounts or messages.
- United States: reports may include work history, public profiles, web mentions, phone numbers, emails, past cities and possible relatives. For dating searches we never show street addresses or relatives.
- UK and Europe: reports include only professional and public-web information: work, company, education, public profile links and web mentions. We do not show home addresses, personal phone numbers, personal emails, age or relatives.
- Lawful basis (UK and EU): legitimate interests, for helping people verify who they are dealing with in business and personal safety. [Link to the legitimate interests assessment.]
- Your rights: you can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you, or object to us showing it. The quickest way is our opt-out form, which takes effect straight away. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
Who we share data with
Our data and service providers, under contract: Cloudflare (hosting), Anthropic (AI that searches the web and writes report summaries), People Data Labs and EnformionGO (people data), IPQualityScore and Twilio (phone and email checks), and Stripe (payments). We don’t sell the information visitors give us.
US state privacy rights
